Drip Irrigation

Irrigation is the process of applying water to the soil artificially using tubes, pumps, and sprays. Irrigation and drainage are one of the most important aspects of lawn care and vertical gardening.

One kind of micro-irrigation system is drip irrigation, Drip irrigation is sometimes called trickle irrigation and involves dripping water onto the soil at very low rates (2-20 liters/hour) from a system of small diameter plastic pipes fitted with outlets called emitters or drippers. When planned, executed, maintained, and managed correctly, drip irrigation is far more efficient than other watering techniques. The mainline, valve, sub-main, backflow preventer, pressure regulator, filter, tubing adapters and fittings, drip tubing, emitters, and end caps are the main components of a drip irrigation system (see graphic below). Drip irrigation provides more focused and effective irrigation, reducing water losses due to evaporation or runoff. This leads to better overall plant health and growth as well as higher water conservation.
